Great Pumpkin Chase set for tomorrow
The second annual Great Pumpkin Chase starts at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Momentum 24/7 Fitness in Bayfield Center Plaza.
The event is a 5K run and a one-mile walk, and participants are welcome to run in costume as they chase the great pumpkin. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. After the race, there will be a costume contest, jack-o-lantern contest, and games and prizes. Leashed dogs and strollers are welcome. The 5K is $20 per person, the mile walk is $15 per person. Some T-shirts and water bottles will be available for same-day registration, but are not guaranteed. Grange holding harvest supper
Mt. Allison Grange will host its annual harvest supper from 5 to 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Grange Hall.
Ham, beef and all the trimmings, along with homemade pie and rolls, are featured.
The cost is $10 for adults and $4 for children 6 to 12 years old. Children under six eat free. The Grange Hall is on CR 329 in Allison.
County meeting set on driveway regs
The La Plata County Public Works Department will hold a second community meeting on proposed driveway standards on Wednesday, Oct. 29, in the courthouse Anasazi Room from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The first meeting was in September.
The proposed standards are on the county web site, http://co.laplata.co.us.
The county, local fire districts, and the public have been discussing driveway standards for the past decade to address code deficiencies, most of which became apparent in the 2002 Missionary Ridge fire. The county commissioners directed staff to present driveway standards to the county planning commission for incorporation into the land use code. The current goal is to present draft standards to the planning commission in November.

Snowdown event deadline is Oct. 31
Anyone interested in hosting an event for the 2015 Steampunk Snowdown must turn in sign-up forms by Oct. 31. The forms are available at www.snowdown.org or at the Durango Welcome Center at 8th Street and Main Avenue.

TARA hosting chili supper-cookoff
The Tiffany-Allison-Rosa-Arboles Association will have its annual chili supper and cookoff from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30 at the TARA Community Center, 33 Milton Lane in Arboles.
The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children 6 to 12, and kids under six eat free. There will be prizes for the best chili, along with peoples' choice awards. Last year, there were 16 different pots of chili to taste.
SWCI holding Halloween bash
The Southwest Center for Independence, a local nonprofit that helps people with disabilities live well in our community, is having a Halloween bash fundraiser from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 at the Lost Dog in Durango. The bash includes a costume party, dance with emcee Raste Stevie and a silent auction. $5 suggested donation. For more information, call Ellinda at 259-1672.
Dog resuce holding fundraiser tomorrow
A fundraiser for Lisa Parker's Puppies takes place from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Derailed Pour House in Durango, 725 Main Ave. This organization finds foster and forever homes for hundreds of rescued puppies and adult dogs every year. Caitlin Cannon will provide live music, and there will a Mexico-vacation giveaway, food and drink specials, puppies on-site for adoption and a live auction. Attendees are asked to bring a puppy or dog-toy donation. Lisa Parker's Puppies (LPP) is a local non-profit committed to finding "forever homes" for stray and unwanted dogs.
