Ignacio events tonight
Ignacio's Taste of Christmas, the monthly First Friday activities, and the Dancing Spirit Community Arts Center fundraiser are all today.
The Taste of Christmas event will be at the Ignacio Community Library this year from 5 to 7 p.m., including photos with Santa. For information, call 563-9287.
The Dancing Spirit "Fill Your Bowl for Art" fundraiser will be from 5 to 8 p.m. with live music by Chokecherry Jam and an assortment of homemade soups, breads, and desserts by gallery members. The cost is $10, with a handmade pottery bowl available for an additional $5. Kids can eat for $5.
Dancing Spirit also will open its Holiday Art Market, with most gifts under $50 and many under $20.
Also for First Friday, Roots Natural Foods will have free soup available while it lasts, Ignacio Floral & Gifts will have free sign-ups until 5:30 p.m. for their coffee club or birthday club (also a free carnation), and The Patio will have its First Friday dinner special.
Bayfield holiday event is Saturday
Bayfield's Old Fashioned Christmas is Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the old community gym on South Street. There will be free chili, nachos, hot cocoa, and cookies, also stocking giveaways, photos with Santa, face painting, and holiday crafts. There will be a raffle, with tickets for $2 or two cans of food for the Bayfield food pantry. For information, call 884-9544.
A/LP water meeting is Monday
The Bureau of Reclamation and Southern Ute Indian Tribe will start contract negotiations Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Durango Community Recreation Center for storage and delivery of Animas/ La Plata project water.
The contract also will include terms and conditions for project operations and maintenance payments.
This and future contract negotiating meetings are open to the public as observers. There will be a 30-minute comment period after the negotiating session when observers can ask questions or make comments related to the contract.

Angel Tree helping families in Ignacio
An angel giving tree is at the Patio in Ignacio, providing presents for three local families for Christmas. Donors are welcome to stop by the restaurant and pick up an angel ornament with a Christmas wish on it. Wrapped presents need to be returned by Dec. 15 with the angel ornament attached so organizers know who the gift is for. For more information, call the Patio at 563-9574.
Organizations raffling elk tags
Two Ignacio groups are raffling off cow elk tags for a hunt on Southern Ute Tribal land in January. Proceeds will benefit the Southern Ute Community Action Programs and the Boys and Girls Club of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the SUCAP office at the corner of Lakin and Goddard in Ignacio, or the SunUte Community Center. Tickets are $5 each.
Toy drive benefitting local kids
The Boys and Girls Club of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe is holding a toy drive for Christmas. Toys are being collected at the Leonard C. Burch building, and donors will be entered into a drawing for a $100 and $50 gift card to Wal-Mart. There also will be toy drop off locations at businesses in Ignacio.
Basketball registration taking place
Bayfield Parks and Recreation is organizing its K-4th grade basketball league for boys and girls. Registrations are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12 at Bayfield Town hall. Games will take place Jan. 10 through Feb. 7. For more information, call 884-9544.
Book sale tomorrow
The Friends of the Pine River Library District will hold a book sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the library community room. The books will make great Christmas gifts.

Grange holding Christmas breakfast
The Mt. Allison Grange will have a free breakfast Saturday, Dec. 6 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the hall in Allison. Canned food donations will be accepted for Christmas baskets for local families. Santa might be there with toys for the kids!
Lions renovating hall
The Bayfield Lions Club will close the hall in January for some much-needed renovations. The piano in the hall also needs a home. It works, but needs tuning and has a few stuck keys. If interested, call Ken Gaherty at 884-2054.
