County commission coming to Bayfield

The La Plata County Commissioners will hold an "On the Road" meeting at Bayfield Town Hall on Monday, June 16. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.

All community members are invited to come ask questions, present concerns, or discuss items of interest with the commissioners. "We are public servants, and getting out into the community is a key way for us to know what's important to county residents," said BOCC chair Julie Westendorff. For more information call 382-6219.

Healthy Homes Workshop will be June 19

The Four Corners Office for Resource Efficiency (4CORE) will host a free Healthy Homes Workshop from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 19 at the Pine River Library in Bayfield. The workshop offers easy tips to improve indoor air quality and health. Participants will receive a free carbon monoxide detector and a radon test kit. Snacks will be provided by Southwest Cleaning and Restoration Experts. GOAL Academy hosting informational meeting for high school students and families

GOAL Academy is a free public school opportunity for students throughout Colorado to earn an accredited Colorado high school diploma. GOAL combines online learning with experiential learning, onsite classes such as film study courses and chess class, self-designed electives, and concurrent enrollment opportunities for students who want to earn college credit while still in high school.

Academic coaches and support staff are on site to provide face-to-face assistance. Students can work independently anytime. An informational meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17 at Pine River Library to learn more about this schooling option.

BUREC holding meeting on Lake Nighthorse

The U.S. Bureau of Reclation will hold a public meeting on recreation at Lake Nighthorse, part of the Animas-La Plata project. The meeting is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at the Durango Recreation Center.

Democrats hosting annual dinner

La Plata County Democrats welcome all to the annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner and silent auction at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 21 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Durango.   The keynote will be given by former U.S. Sen. Gary Hart. Reserve tickets online at www.laplatadems.org or by calling 764-4756. Hart will have a talk and book signing of his new book, Durango, at the Rochester Hotel from 3 to 4 p.m. on the same day at no cost.
