Police are warning the public and seeking information about an attempted abduction reported last weekend in Durango.
A 30-year-old Durango woman said a man driving a dark-blue Chevrolet Blazer with New Mexico plates tried to pull her into his truck about 2:05 p.m. Saturday as she walked toward the downtown near Florida Road and Holly Avenue, said Deck Shaline, a detective with the Durango Police Department.
While the woman was walking, the man pulled over and opened the passenger-side door of his truck and offered her a ride, Shaline said. When the woman refused, the man tried to pull her into his truck by grabbing her arm, Shaline said.
The woman said she was able to escape by striking the man in the face which caused an injury that drew blood from somewhere on his face.
The suspected is described as a light-skinned Hispanic man in his late 20s or early 30s. He was wearing a navy-blue ball cap backwards with an NFL logo on it. He also wore a navy-blue and gray flannel shirt over a white sleeveless shirt and gray jeans, according to the woman’s description to police.
He drove a full-sized, dark-blue, four-door Blazer.
No one else was inside the truck at the time, she told police.
Anyone who observed the attempted abduction or who might have information about the suspect is asked to call Detective Brad Roach at 375-4738.
