If you can’t wait for the Durango Farmer’s Market to open in two and a half weeks, you’re in luck – the Old Fort Farm Stand is already in business at Fort Lewis College.
Students majoring in agriculture and nutrition raise and grow organic and sustainable vegetables and meat at the Old Fort in Hesperus, the college’s first home. They harvest their efforts and bring them to the Student Union to sell on Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. (They move outdoors under the clock tower when the weather warms up.)
This week, there’s an abundance of greens – kale, mixed, chard, spinach, cilantro – as well as dried chiles and beef and pork.
At last, fresh, local vegetables. Spring is here.
