This week marks the end of April and the beginning of May. For local athletes, this means that the stakes get higher, with high-level competition for several sports beginning this week. Here are all the local sports events this upcoming week:
Fort Lewis College women’s golf:
FLC at NCAA Division II West South Central Super Regional beginning Monday
After a new program-best fifth-place finish out of 10 teams at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championships on April 20-22, the FLC women are looking toward the NCAA D-II regional competition. The tournament will be held in Canyon, Texas, and begins on Monday and lasts until Wednesday, May 7.
Fort Lewis College track and field:
FLC at CSU Pueblo Last Chance Meet on Saturday at 10 a.m.
A strong showing at the RMAC championships last Friday through Sunday saw freshman Brody Hubbard and junior Alliyah Molina earn first team all-conference honors in the 1,500 meters and 10,000 respectively, along with sophomore Zach Gaumont earning second team all-conference honors in the 100. Some FLC athletes will now be heading to Pueblo for a chance to earn a spot at nationals on May 22-24.
