Local sports schedule for upcoming week

FLC, Durango High School teams begin playoff competition

The second week of May is here and with it comes another busy week for local sports teams. As the end of the school year gets closer, the season of high-level, end-of-season competition for high school and college sports teams is in full swing. Here are all the local sports events this upcoming week:

Fort Lewis College men’s golf:

FLC junior golfer Traejan Andrews has qualified as an individual for the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division II Super Regionals. He will head to Riverside, California, for the South Central Super Regional tournament, which begins on Thursday and lasts until Saturday.

Fort Lewis College track and field:

Some of Fort Lewis’ track and field athletes will head to Azusa, California for the Azusa Last Chance Meet on Friday and Saturday. This meet will be those athletes’ last chance to hit a provisional mark and qualify for the NCAA Division II national championships, beginning on May 23.

High school sports:

Wednesday:

No. 5 DHS girls soccer vs. No. 28 Mountain View at 5:30 p.m. in the first round of 4A state playoffs.

Thursday:

DHS girls tennis at state championships in Pueblo all day

Friday:

DHS girls tennis at state championships all day

Bayfield track and field at Monte Vista Track and Field meet all day

DHS baseball at Palisade at 4 p.m.

Saturday:

DHS girls tennis at state championships all day

Bayfield and Ignacio track and field at Montrose Track and Field Meet all day

DHS track and field at Teddy’s Last Chance Qualifier in Fort Collins at 9 a.m.

DHS baseball at Palisade at 11 a.m.

Bayfield baseball at Montezuma-Cortez at 11 a.m.

Ignacio baseball at Olathe at 11 a.m.
