Local sports schedule for upcoming week

Durango High School, Fort Lewis College football teams have bye week

Nights are getting colder and stadium lights are coming on earlier. Those are two signs local fall high school and college sports are in full swing.

Almost all teams have multiple games of film to look at to see where they need to improve and where they’ve excelled.

For the Fort Lewis College and Durango High School football teams, its already their bye weeks this upcoming weekend. It’s a great opportunity to hit the practice field and for players to recover from injuries.

Here’s the local sports schedule for the upcoming week:

FLC sports:

Thursday: Men’s soccer at St. Edward’s University at 6 p.m.

Notes: Division II’s No. 6 ranked Skyhawks pulled out a win in miraculous fashion in their opener on Thursday. FLC scored two goals in the last 30 minutes, including the game-winning goal with 30 seconds left by freshman Lorenz Guintini, for a 2-1 win over Lubbock Christian

St. Edward’s is 1-0 overall after its opening 3-0 win against Delta State on Thursday.

Women’s soccer vs. Eastern New Mexico at 7 p.m.

Notes: The Skyhawks broke through on Saturday for their first win of the season. Jenna Salazar scored in the 82nd minute as FLC beat St. Edward’s 1-0 in Grand Junction. FLC moved to 1-0-1 after the win.

Eastern New Mexico is 0-1 overall after its 1-0 loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State. Last season, the Skyhawks beat Eastern New Mexico 3-0.

Friday: Cycling at Crested Butte

Volleyball vs. Eastern New Mexico in Lubbock Christian Tournament at 9 a.m.

Notes: The Skyhawks are off to their best start since 2017 after going 3-1 in the Western New Mexico Invitational last weekend.

Eastern New Mexico is 0-3 overall. The two teams met in the Western New Mexico Invitational last weekend and FLC took the win, 3-0.

Volleyball vs. Lubbock Christian University at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday: Cycling at Crested Butte

Volleyball vs. Southwestern Oklahoma State in Lubbock Christian Tournament at 11:30 a.m.

Men’s soccer at St. Mary’s University at 3 p.m.

Women’s soccer vs. Lubbock Christian at 7 p.m.

Monday: Women’s golf at Ruidoso Junior Golf Association RJGA Shootout at Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona

Men’s golf at at South Dakota Mines Travis Roy Memorial Invitational in Sheridan, Wyoming

Tuesday: Women’s golf at Ruidoso Junior Golf Association RJGA Shootout at Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona
