The upcoming week is packed with local sports teams competing as the fall sports season continues.
Fort Lewis College football and Durango High School football return after bye weeks. The Skyhawks return home, while Durango hits the road.
Also on the gridiron, the Bayfield and Ignacio football teams face off on Friday for a fun and entertaining rivalry game.
After a lengthy stretch of road games, the FLC volleyball team has its first home game this upcoming week; the Skyhawks are off to their best start since 2010 under first-year head coach Justin Wong.
There’s still plenty of time for teams keep the positive momentum going or to break bad habits and stop losing. Most teams have over a month left.
Here’s the local sports schedule for the upcoming week:
Thursday: Men’s soccer vs. Simon Fraser University at 7 p.m.
Notes: The Skyhawks are still undefeated, but have more ties than wins. FLC is 1-0-2 overall after its 1-1 tie at Division II’s No. 17-ranked St. Mary’s University on Saturday. FLC has trailed in all three of its games so far this season.
Simon Fraser is winless so far at 0-2-2 overall. Simon Fraser and FLC played last season and tied 1-1.
Women’s soccer at No. 2 Cal Poly Pomona at 7 p.m.
Notes: The Skyhawks are still undefeated at 3-0-1 overall after their 2-0 win at home against Lubbock Christian University on Saturday. FLC is off to its best start since 2013.
Cal Poly Pomona won the 2024 Division II national championship and finished last season 21-1-2 overall. The Broncos are 4-0 so far this season.
Friday: Volleyball vs. Black Hills State at 6 p.m.
Notes: The FLC volleyball team is off to its best start since 2010 with a 6-1 overall record. The Skyhawks finished their nonconference schedule at the Lubbock Christian Tournament and won all three games there, including their sixth win of the season, 3-1, against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
The Yellow Jackets are 3-5 overall; both teams begin Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play with this game.
Last season, FLC beat Black Hills State 3-1.
