Schedules for local fall sports teams are all over the place this week.
Durango High School softball, boys golf and volleyball and Bayfield High School boys soccer have wrapped up their seasons. On the other hand, the Durango, Bayfield and Ignacio football teams have regular season games left, along with Bayfield and Ignacio volleyball. Then, there are the Durango boys soccer, Durango cross country, Bayfield cross country and Ignacio cross country teams that are already in the postseason.
Fort Lewis College hasn’t been mentioned yet. The Skyhawks fall sports teams have less than three weeks remaining in their regular season schedules.
Safe to say, there’s a lot on the line this week for the teams still playing. Here’s the local sports schedule for the upcoming week:
Thursday: Men’s soccer at South Dakota Mines at 5 p.m.
Notes: The Skyhawks’ game against South Dakota Mines is the start of a three-game road trip to end the regular season. FLC won its final home game of the regular season on Sunday, 1-0, against Colorado School of Mines.
FLC did have an interesting addition to the schedule on Tuesday night. The Skyhawks resumed their Oct. 3 match against Colorado Christian that was stopped in Durango due to weather. FLC breezed by Colorado Christian for a 5-0 win.
The Skyhawks improved to 7-3-4 overall and 3-2-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference heading into the South Dakota Mines game. The Hardrockers are 6-6-3 overall and 1-6-1 in the RMAC.
Women’s volleyball vs. UCCS at 6 p.m.
Notes: With six regular season games left, the Skyhawks already have the most wins in a season since 2010. However, FLC faces one of its toughest tests of the season on Thursday against UCCS.
The ThunderWolves are 18-2 overall and are tied for first in the RMAC at 9-1 in conference play. The Skyhawks aren’t far behind in third at 8-2 in conference play and 14-5 overall.
FLC has won five of its last six games, including a 3-2 win at New Mexico Highlands on Saturday.
Friday: Women’s soccer vs. Colorado Christian University at 7 p.m.
Notes: The Skyhawks have found their groove late in the season. FLC is 8-4-2 overall and 5-2-1 in the RMAC after its 1-0 win over Regis on Sunday. FLC hasn’t lost since Sept. 28 against then top-10 Division II team in Colorado School of Mines. Colorado Christian is 2-6-6 overall and 1-3-5 in the RMAC.
Saturday: Football vs. Adams State at 1 p.m.
Notes: The Skyhawks’ 24-14 loss to Colorado Mesa was the team’s closest loss in nearly a month. The closeness of the loss doesn’t change FLC’s record as the team is 1-7 overall and 0-6 in the RMAC.
FLC’s game against Adams State will be the Skyhawks’ best chance for an RMAC win this year. Adams State is 0-6 in conference play and 0-8 overall.
Women’s volleyball vs. Colorado School of Mines at 3 p.m.
Sunday: Men’s soccer at Regis at 1 p.m.
Women’s soccer vs. MSU Denver at 1 p.m.
