Christmas is just over a week away, and the local sports schedule is full of action over the next week as players and coaches look to head home for the holidays with victories.

For local high school sports teams, tournament action continues. Wrestling teams have some of their best tournaments of the season coming up, while basketball teams continue the tournament part of their schedule before Christmas break and eventually league play.

Fort Lewis College’s basketball teams play some tough competition in Texas before a much needed Christmas break.

Here’s the local sports schedule for the upcoming week:

FLC sports:

Wednesday: Men’s basketball vs. No. 13 St. Mary’s University in the River City Holiday Classis in San Antonio, Texas, at 10 a.m.

However, the good vibes didn’t last very long as the Skyhawks struggled in a 87-61 loss to St. Edward’s University on Tuesday in San Antonio as part of the River City Holiday Classic. FLC dropped to 5-5 overall after it fell behind by 23 points in the first half and shot 36% from the field, 20% from 3-point range and 75% from the free-throw line.

FLC will look to rebound against St. Mary’s, which enters the game 8-1 overall. The Rattlers have three wins against RMAC schools, and beat Western New Mexico, a team FLC went 1-1 against this season.

Women’s basketball vs. Maryville University in Tyler, Texas at 11 a.m.
