Local sports schedule for upcoming week

High school teams have home openers throughout the week

Spring break is over, and now it’s time for the local sports team to get back to work with plenty of action this week.

The only high school teams in action this past week were baseball squads. Durango bounced back from its 0-2 start to win three games at the Scorpion Invitational. Durango had its home opener on Tuesday. Bayfield went 1-2 at the Delta tournament, and the Wolverines will stay on the road this weekend.

Plenty of other Durango teams are home, including girls soccer, girls lacrosse, girls tennis and boys lacrosse. Most high school teams are finishing up their non-league schedules, so there is still time to build chemistry and skill before the regular-season games matter the most.

Up on the hill, Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse is still looking for its first win and will have two home games this week. Softball will also be home this weekend.

Here’s the local sports schedule for the upcoming week:

FLC sports:

Friday: Cycling at the CMU Rumble in Grand Junction

Women’s lacrosse vs. Westminster at 1 p.m.

Notes: The Skyhawks are still looking for their first win and are 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. FLC’s closest loss has been by four goals, and its losses have been by an average of 9.4 goals. Fifth-year attack Diamond Velasco leads FLC with 11 points (nine goals, two assists).

Westminster enters the contest 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the RMAC after its 16-13 win over Colorado Mesa on Saturday.

Men’s, women’s track and field at at Chuck Haering Invitational in Pueblo

Softball vs. Adams State at noon

Notes: The Skyhawks softball squad is looking to snap a six-game losing streak after FLC was swept against CSU Pueblo on Saturday and Sunday. Those losses dropped FLC to 3-27 overall and 2-18 in the RMAC.

FLC has had plenty of close losses, and the Skyhawks had two more against the ThunderWolves with a 4-3 loss in 10 innings on Saturday and another 4-3 loss on Saturday. CSU Pueblo finished the series by winning 6-0 and 4-1 on Sunday.

Adams State enters the series 6-24 overall and 5-15 in the RMAC after it was swept in its series against Colorado Mesa on Saturday and Sunday.
