This upcoming is the middle of April and also the middle of league play for local high school sports as there are plenty of promising teams hitting their strides.
Luckily for local supporters, a lot of these teams are playing at home this week, so it’s a great time to see how these teams have progressed with only a few weeks left in the regular season.
Two teams that will be at home that are on a roll are the Durango High School baseball and girls soccer teams.
The girls soccer team started the season with a loss to one of the top teams in 5A, Ralston Valley, and since then, the Demons have won six consecutive games and are second in 4A in CHSAA’s Selection & Seeding Index. Durango has won 18 consecutive games in the 4A/5A Southwestern League dating back to 2024.
Durango baseball played a tough schedule to start the season against top teams in New Mexico and Colorado, but the Demons have things rolling now that they’re in league play. Durango has won four of its last five games to begin 4A/5A Southwestern League play 3-1. The Demons are ranked sixth in 4A in CHSAA’s Selection & Seeding Index.
The Demons’ track and field teams have been performing well, and they’ll host some local squads in the Ron Keller Invitational this weekend.
Ignacio baseball has won four of its past five games, with four of those games coming in blowout fashion.
Up at Fort Lewis College, the Skyhawks track and field teams have a busy week ahead on the road, and softball will return home at the end of the week.
