The calendar has turned to May, so that means it’s one thing in the high school sports world: playoff time.
High school lacrosse and girls soccer teams wrapped up their regular seasons over the weekend, and the Durango High School girls soccer and girls lacrosse teams will host playoff games as they try and advance deeper into the playoffs than last year. It will be the last time some of these student-athletes play sports competitively as they chase the glory of a deep playoff run with a group they’ve been with for years.
There’s still a week left in the high school baseball season, and the Demons have a massive two-game regular-season finale at home that’ll have big playoff ramifications. Ignacio baseball also has home games remaining that’ll determine its playoff seed.
Fort Lewis College has some postseason events on the calendar as men’s golf wraps up its season. Track and field and cycling are racing toward the national championships with a few regular season events left.
Enjoy the games and realize that the next time the calendar turns, the local sports schedule will be gone with school out and no games left.
