Local sports schedule for upcoming week

High school wrestling state championships set for Thursday through Saturday

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, another busy week of local sports is coming up. Fort Lewis College will begin its women’s lacrosse season, with indoor track, basketball and softball also in action. High school wrestling state championships are happening this week, with DHS, Bayfield and Ignacio athletes traveling to Denver to compete. Here are all the local sports events this coming week:

Fort Lewis College basketball:

FLC women’s basketball vs. No. 24 Colorado Mesa University on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Records: CMU brings a 10-game winning streak into Thursday’s game, which has them at 17-4 overall and 12-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The red-hot Mavericks are ranked No. 24 in the country in the NCAA Division II coaches’ poll and are at the top of the RMAC standings. The 6-16 (3-11 RMAC) Skyhawks are beginning a four-game home stand and hope to snap a two-game losing streak.

FLC men’s basketball vs. Colorado Mesa University on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Records: The Skyhawks come into their matchup with CMU having won 10 of their last 13 games, sitting at 15-8 overall and 9-5 in the RMAC. Colorado Mesa brings a 13-9 overall record and a 7-7 RMAC record into Whalen Gymnasium. The FLC men are also beginning a four-game home stand, looking to move up the RMAC standings.

FLC women’s basketball vs. Western Colorado University on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Fort Lewis College indoor track:

Both the men and women will be in action this Friday and Saturday, seeing their first action since Feb. 1. The men’s team is headed to Seattle for the University of Washington’s Husky Classic, while the women will be in Allendale, Michigan for the Grand Valley State University Big Meet.

Fort Lewis College softball:

FLC softball vs. MSU Denver on Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Records: The Skyhawks sit at 1-4 after their five games at the Concordia Kickoff Classic and will be seeing their first action since Feb. 2. After starting its season 5-0, MSU Denver has lost its last four games. The Roadrunners bring a 5-4 record into their four-game series with FLC, hoping to snap that four-game losing streak.

Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse:

Skyhawks women’s lacrosse vs. Saint Michael’s College on Sunday at 1 p.m.

FLC women’s lacrosse at Dominican University of California on Tuesday at 11 a.m.

The Skyhawks will begin their 2025 season with two games in San Rafael. FLC is coming off a 3-11 season that saw four players earn all-conference honors.

Ignacio boys and girls varsity basketball vs. Centauri at 1 p.m.

Bayfield boys and girls varsity basketball vs. Monte Vista at 4 p.m.

DHS girls varsity basketball vs. Montrose at 5:30 p.m.

DHS boys varsity basketball vs. Montrose at 7 p.m.

Saturday:

Bayfield and Ignacio boys and girls varsity wrestling at state championships all day

Tuesday:

Ignacio boys and girls varsity basketball at Cortez at 4:30 p.m.
