This month’s unemployment numbers are in and things are looking bright in La Plata County.

The unemployment rate in the county in May was measured at 4.3 percent, a decreased from April’s 4.5 percent. The unemployment rate for the same time period last year was 6.7 percent.

The unemployment rate for the state of Colorado was 5.8 percent, compared to the country’s 6.3 percent. The last time the unemployment rate was 5.8 percent or lower was in November 2008 when the rate was 5.7 percent, according to a news release issued on behalf of the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.

The June 2014 Colorado Employment Situation will be released Friday, July 18.
