Locally made gift items are focus at Bayberry Market

"Made in Bayfield, Colorado" is the theme at Bayberry Market, an arts and crafts gift shop in the Aspen Plaza business center just north of Highway 160.

The shop has pottery, jewelry, paintings, feather wall decorations, rustic furniture and other woodwork, stained glass and metal work.

The shop was started by potter and painter Connie Mason Bennett. The day the Times stopped in, Donna Fowler was tending the store. She has cowgirl-style jewelry, cowgirl-bling hats and purses under the name Xtreme Cowgirl. Also there was Heidi Lewis, who owns and operates the Floral Expressions floral shop in the same building.

Lewis stressed that Bayberry Market is a gift shop with things locals can afford, not a high-end gallery. The goal is for all local exhibitors to keep with the "Made in Bayfield" theme, she said.

The market has around 18 exhibitors. Some sell on consignment, and some, the primary exhibitors, rent their space and also do work shifts in the store so it can be open more hours.

The primary exhibitors are potters Connie Bennett and Andrea Clements, Fowler with her Xtreme Cowgirl items, Susan Purdy with turquoise inlay woodwork such as cutting boards and lamps, Sparky Fisher with custom woodwork, and Jenny Baker Ferguson with welded and plasma cut metal items, worked copper and stained glass. All of these artists also do custom work.

Selling work on consignment are Denita Fishbach with wood work, Melvin Miller with reclaimed wood furniture, John Farrar with feather wall decorations, Angela Reali with wine barrel furniture, Connie Wolf with jewelry, Kristi Taylor with "Simply Smashing," Jill Weyer with recycled angels, Denise Boggess with goat milk products, and Boyd Vinson with horseshoe art.

Current hours are Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 3 p.m. For more information, call 946-4564.
