At the recent Durango Mike Pence rally, I listened to Pence and J. Paul Brown encourage the crowd as they shouted, “lock her up” regarding Hillary Clinton. In a cloak of piety and patriotism, these men encouraged the audience to thank first responders and those of us who served in the military. Both closed by suggesting attendees “bend a knee” and give thanks and God Bless America.
Unlike Pence or Brown, I served in the military. I took an oath to defend the Constitution. America does not jail political opponents. I don’t remember learning that in Sunday school, either.
