Log Chutes trailwork slated

Work on Log Chutes – a relatively underutilized gem of a trail system that starts not far past the Junction Creek Campground – will occur Wednesday.

The trailwork from 4-7 p.m. is being sponsored by the Durango Running Club in conjunction with Trails 2000.

Work will commence from a Trails 2000 truck which will be parked along Junction Creek Road. Work on the system, which includes a short loop and an extended loop off that, will start where the two trails cross Junction Creek Road above the trailhead, which is located four miles past the Colorado Trail trailhead.

Volunteers are asked to carpool if possible.

Workers are advised to bring long pants, long-sleeved shirt, closed-toe shoes, hat, sunscreen and a water bottle. Trails 2000 will provide tools, instruction and water for volunteers, while the Durango Running Club will provide food and beverages.

Workers can come for as much of the three-hour period as they have available.
