When Donald Trump recently tweeted that 3 out of 4 international terrorism-related convictions in U.S. Courts since Sept. 11, 2001, were of foreign-born individuals (apparently in support of his immigration stance), he neglected to say that this figure doesn’t include those convicted of domestic terrorism charges, those convicted in state courts, or others with pending charges.
Instead, his statement mostly covers people arrested during the “War on Terror,” which includes wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and multiple other points around the globe. These people, of course, are foreign-born.
This is a reminder to look behind his statements at the actual facts, and to recall the maxim that figures don’t lie, but liars figure.
