A quick note to local news outlets regarding the trash talking of the EPA and threatened lawsuits against the EPA surrounding the abandoned mine contaminated wastewater accidental release into the Animas River: Granted, the EPA contractor was not careful enough in its efforts to begin dealing with the mitigation of the mine cleanup. However, for those of us familiar with Congress’ recent – and at times past – hostile attitude toward the EPA, most of the anger should arguably directed toward current members of Congress and those elected officials (state and federal) who have resisted tighter regulations surrounding mining practices and funding of the “Superfund” cleanup program.
There are experts who can speak to this issue better than I can, so I won’t go into details, but leave the above mentions to you to investigate on your own and appropriately present that side in your arguments to the public.
