Looking Ahead

Explore space at Ignacio libraryIf you’ve ever looked up and wondered what’s beyond what you can see in the sky, then the program Ignacio Community Library is offering may be right up your alley.

“Explore Space: A Cosmic Journey” is a traveling exhibit for libraries that offers interactive activities for everyone. Patrons will have the chance to learn about our universe, how stars and planets form and the role of gravity. The exhibit is broken down into four areas: Seach for Alien Earths, Exploring Our Solar System, Space Rocks and Electric Space.

The exhibit will also feature several special library programs and events, including a grand opening from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. There will also be star-viewing evenings Sept. 7 and Sept. 28. Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave.

New show is for the animals at Studio &Studio & is opening a new show this weekend. “A World Apart: New Paintings from Elizabeth Kinahan,” besides offering cool artwork, is helping animals as well.

In Kinahan’s newest work, she continues to explore local animals, primarily agricultural animals. She’ll be showing a year of new paintings, which includes portraits of donkeys, sheep, cattle and goats.

And the cool thing about this show is that the work will again serve as a way to support animal-rescue efforts, with a portion of all sales being donated to Peaceful Prairie Sanctuary in Deer Trail.

There will be an opening reception from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the gallery, 1027 Main Ave.

The exhibit will run through Sept. 4.
