We’re a little less than a week away from Halloween, and if you haven’t made plans yet, fear not – here’s a list of some of the haunted houses, shows and straight-up candy riots that will be held in the area in the next week. As an added bonus, we’re throwing in a daily classic horror movie suggestion for your spooky, watch-through-your-fingers viewing pleasure if you’d rather stay home.
5-9 p.m.: Dr. Peure Evil presents Carnevil, ELHI Community Center, 115 Ute St., Ignacio. Hosted by Scream Line Haunts.

6-10 p.m.: Nightmare on Elk Street Haunted House, Durango Elks Lodge, 901 East Second Ave. $7.
6 p.m.: Cirque de Los Muertos, Powerhouse Science Center, 1333 Camino del Rio. $25-$37. The Durango Circus presents “Cirque de Los Muertos.” It’s the Day of the Dead at The Durango Circus. Be transported into the minds of the living and the realm of the dead through aerial feats, acrobatic engagements, unique characters, jugglers, stilt walkers and more. Note: Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. For elderly or disabled patrons, email info@daaacircus.com to reserve your seats in advance. 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.: Pumpkin Fest, Montezuma Park, Cortez. Hosted by The Piñon Project. 5K Zombie Run (9-10 a.m.), costume contest (registration 10-11 a.m., judging 11-11:30 a.m.), trick-or-treating (11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.), carnival games (noon-2:30 p.m.), food, vendors. 11 a.m.-2 p.m.: 13th annual Three Springs Fall Festival, Three Springs Plaza, 175 Mercado St. Trick-or-treating, live music, festival games, pumpkin patch and more. Traffic/parking: Because of street closures around the plaza, follow traffic and parking signs on the day of the event. There will be free event parking available. 12-5 p.m.: San Juan College Halloween Carnival, Health and Human Performance Center Gym, 4601 College Blvd., Farmington. Games and activities. Halloween costume contest, which is open to all ages and includes a group/family category. Registration for the costume contest will begin at noon, and judging times will be listed at the door by the registration table. Prizes will be offered in five categories, and a group/family category. Don’t miss walking through the haunted house. This year’s theme is An Abandoned Circus. Tickets are $.25 each, and games range from one to eight tickets. The costume contest is $1 or four tickets, and admission to the carnival is free. 12-7 p.m.: The Hive Halloween Carnival, 11th Street Station, 1101 Main Ave. Hosted by The Hive – Youth Centered Community Hub. Live music – open musical collaboration; all ages talent show 2 to 4 p.m. (sign up at 1:30 p.m.); live art walls open to all; Halloween carnival games with prizes. Music will begin at 4 p.m. and will include: Uncle Kelsey, Thee Fearless Peasants, Yourbones and Profetic Calaveras. All proceeds will go to funding the opening of Durango’s new Youth Centered Community Program – The Hive.

10:30 a.m.: Halloween Family Storytime, Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave. Free. Stories, songs, rhymes and other fun activities for Halloween. Wear a costume. Storytime lasts about 30 minutes with candy-free trick-or-treating throughout the library afterward.
2-6 p.m.: Drop-in Halloween Sweet Treat Craft, Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive, Bayfield.
4 p.m.: Children’s Halloween, downtown Durango. Free. Safe and fun trick-or-treating in downtown Durango at 100 shops and restaurants. For children 10 and younger, in costume, accompanied by an adult.
4-6 p.m.: Boo-Palooza, downtown Farmington. Family-friendly fun at Orchard Park. Activities will include trick-or-treating on Main Street, vendor activities and costume contests for all ages. Register by 4:45 p.m. for the costume contests at the main stage at Orchard Park. Free to enter.
5-6 p.m.: Library Halloween Party, Mancos Public Library, 211 West First St., Mancos.
