The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College has announced the addition of four shows - The Motet, Los Lobos, Farewell Angelina and Paula Poundstone - to its 2018 Winter-Spring performing arts season.
Tickets for all are set to go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, online at www.durangoconcerts.com, by phone at 247.7657, or in person at the Ticket Office inside the Durango Welcome Center at Eighth Street and Main Avenue. Newly announced shows are:
The Motet

You can't fake the funk, and The Motet brings it on hard with a signature style that is said to slap you in the face with sounds that are fresh and unique. Indeed, The Motet, an infectious Denver-based band, is called the "future of funk." Seamlessly fusing elements of Afro-beat, electronica, funk and jazz, The Motet has a sound that defies categorization. Descriptions have included: Funk-flippin', booty-dippin', dance party delivery squad. With spontaneous rhythms and hard-driving beats, the band inspires a rapport with audiences rarely seen in today's manufactured rock.
Los Lobos

Los Lobos may be most widely known for the hit "La Bamba," but for more than 40 years the band has reigned as one of the world's most innovative and critically acclaimed groups. Formed in the mid-1970s by David Hidalgo, Cesar Rosas Louis Perez and Conrad Lozano, Los Lobos began as a traditional acoustic Mexican group, but under the influence of L.A.'s '80s punk rock scene, the members went electric, thus incorporating their blues, R&B, Latin, jazz and rock influences into an energized sound. The band is embarking an ambitious series of dates hot on the heels of the release of the new, full length studio album, Gates of Gold. The album was produced by the band with music that is as dynamic, eclectic and distinctive as the band's ever created.
Artists You Need to Know: Farewell Angelina

Named after a haunting Bob Dylan song, Farewell Angelina is an all-female country group featuring four powerhouse vocalists who are equally dynamic songwriters and talented instrumentalists. The blend of heart-stopping harmonies over blazing double violins and guitars has earned them wide praise, including from Rolling Stone, "Wickedly smart songwriting delivered with a healthy dash of sass. deft playing.into one sonic knockout punch." And the Dylan lyric: "Farewell Angelina. The bells of the crown. Are being stolen by bandits. I must follow the sound."
Paula Poundstone

With smart, observational humor and a legendary spontaneous interaction with the crowd, Paula Poundstone is one of our country's pre-eminent comedians. She improvises with a crowd like a jazz musician, swinging in unexpected directions without a plan, without a net. There's a disarming ease in her craft, an immediate sense that she's so quick on her feet, one need never worry about the possibility of something going wrong. Widely known for the weekly NPR comedy news quiz show, "Wait, Wait. Don't Tell Me," Poundstone has been described by host Peter Sagal as, ". the funniest human being I have ever known. Everything she does, thinks, or says is hilarious."
Celebrating its 20th Anniversary Season in 2017, the Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College. Its ability to bring a diverse spectrum of shows to Southwest Colorado is made possible through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, and through financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
