Lose shackles of greed: Vote for Koli

In regards to the Herald’s April 26 editorial proclaiming Bob Formwalt to be a green candidate, I was quite amused and confused as to why it was not published in the comics section.

Evidently, the Herald either has no idea what green means or is trying to confuse the public with rhetoric that is totally baseless. Formwalt has held a position on the LPEA board of directors for 15 years, but I have not heard of a single notable program that he has personally instituted for the betterment of the environment. As a matter of fact, he mentioned to Nicholas Kazarinoff that he would like to see nuclear-generated power brought in on his high-power transmission lines. I bet Tri-State hasn’t heard this idea yet.

If he was really interested in lowering rates and procuring self-sufficiency for our co-op, he would align with small solar farms ideally located, geothermal and biomass to supply the members with clean sustainable power that would not kill our forests or pollute our streams. Add up the cost of our last 15 years of coal power, and see what the end price of Formwalt’s alignment with Tri-State comes out to be. Green is the future, and Nicholas “Koli” Kazarinoff is aware of how to get there.

If The Durango Herald had taken the time to interview him instead of writing a biased editorial, we would certainly know the facts. In all fairness to Formwalt, we have all been bullied by the big boys in the schoolyard and the politicians and bankers who support them. Now is the time to take back our power and vote for change. Do something for yourself, your children and grandchildren: Lose the shackles of greed and corruption and move to a future of compassion for our planet and savings for ourselves and our neighbors.

Vote for Koli.
