The Durango Business Improvement District is rolling out a new promotion for locals this spring and my faithful readers are the first to get all the details. BID’s first ever Love Locals Week will occur May 1 to 10. This is BID’s way of saying thank you to locals and offering you a reason to continue to support local businesses.
Love Locals Week has three components. BOGO on BID’s Heart of Durango Dollars digital gift card is part one. Buy a BID gift card for $100 and we will give you a $50 card for free. BID’s gift card is currently accepted at 110 businesses in the heart of Durango. Shopping, dining, health and wellness and entertainment are available to you through BID’s gift card.
The second part of Love Locals Week is deals and specials at many of the businesses that accept the card that are only available to people who have a card. Not only can you earn a free $50 card, but you also will be able to save 5% here or 10% there or get a free item with a purchase. Love Locals Week helps your hard-earned dollars to go further.
The third component is events. The Durango area always has great events, and May 1 to 10 is no exception. Trivia nights, Durango First Friday, the iAM MUSIC Fest, the first train of the year to Silverton, Dandelion Festival, Cinco de Mayo, a dart tournament, Bear Film Festival, Spring Gallery Walk, the first Farmers Market of the year (and the first one on Main Avenue) and more! If the free gift card and discounts were not enough, hopefully some of these events will entice you out and about.
All three components of Love Locals Week are designed for locals to enjoy and support businesses and events downtown and in the North Main District. The timing is designed to get you into the heart of Durango before the busy summer tourism seasons begins.
BID owes a huge thank you to Alpine Bank for being the presenting sponsor for Love Locals Week. Alpine Bank has supported similar BID programs for years now, and we love their community spirit! Thank you, Alpine Bank.
BID also thanks Zia Taqueria, Maria’s Bookshop and Grassburger for sponsoring the program. Get a taco, buy a book and then grab a burger from these great local businesses.
I will also tell you that the beginning of this year has been tough on local businesses. It has been slower than normal due to many factors, with weather and inflation being the main reasons. This comes on the heels of a not-so-great 2025, with six of the 10 largest industry areas in Downtown being in the red for the year.
