La Plata Electric Association recently awarded Mark Kempinski of Ignacio and Alexander Svanes of Bayfield lineman scholarships, which provides two students enrolled in an electric line-worker program at an accredited institution, including vocational schools, technical schools, colleges and universities in the United States, up to $12,000 each for tuition, books and other expenses.
Svanes, Bayfield High School graduate, and Kempinski, Ignacio High School graduate and 2016 intern at LPEA, will both attend Colorado Mesa University, Grand Junction, to be trained as linemen.
