Our LPEA board has an ethics policy that requires “honest and candid conduct.” You and I might think this requires communication to be factual and complete. You might think it would also require acknowledgment and correction of mistakes.
After filing multiple ethics complaints against board members and senior staff, I’ve found that it is interpreted to mean you can’t prove they knowingly lied. In other words, they use ignorance and incompetence as a defense.
The board as a matter of policy does not interpret ‘honest and candid’ to mean ‘accurate and complete.’ Nor has our board ever acknowledged or apologized for inaccurate statements. You might wonder why they even have an ethics policy.
So, when you hear our LPEA board members say power will be less expensive, local power production will boost the economy, and they have no conflict of interest, remember the standard of honesty they’ve set for themselves. For allowing this standard of conduct to exist our entire board should be replaced.
