LPEA funds fall 'Sight-in Days' at shooting range

Durango Gun Club range offers six free days to hunters

La Plata Electric Association announced that it will continue support of "Sight-in Days" at Durango Gun Club's outdoor range, where community members and hunters can scope rifles, shoot in a controlled environment and prepare for the season.

More than 500 hunters have used the free service in previous years, according to an LPEA news release. The co-op recently contributed funds to the club, which will cover costs for six complementary days at the range.

"Sight-in Days" will be offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Oct. 19-20 and Nov. 2-3 at the club's outdoor range on La Posta Road (County Road 213). Durango Gun Club staff members and volunteers will be available to assist people, answer questions and perform minor repairs to firearms.

"At LPEA, we realize that hunting deer and elk is one of our traditions in this part of the country, and we know hunters need to sight their rifle scopes in preparation," said Justin Talbot, manager of operations at LPEA, in a news release. "We really want to help discourage sighting scopes in uncontrolled environments. Taking aim at LPEA equipment is vandalism. Beyond the expense and inconvenience to our customers if an outage occurs, repair requires hazardous work by our LPEA crews to get everyone back in power."

The service is free and open to all. Donations to the club are welcome.
