La Plata Electric Association and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association invite high school juniors to apply for the National Rural Electric Youth Tour trip to Washington, D.C., which is set for June 8-15.
The application deadline is Jan. 9.
LPEA will sponsor one student from each municipality within its service territory of Durango, Bayfield, Pagosa Springs and Ignacio.
All high school juniors whose households receive electricity from LPEA are eligible to apply.
The accepted applicants will be sponsored for an all-expenses-paid trip to the nation’s capital for a look into the federal government, including museum and monument tours, an interaction with Colorado’s elected representatives and social activities.
Students must complete the application and write a 500-word essay about any aspect of the electric energy industry.
Applications are available at www.lpea.coop, from high school counselors and at the LPEA offices, 45 Stewart St. in Durango and and 603 S. Eighth St. in Pagosa Springs.
