LPEA is striving to be transparent

I appreciated Sara Ferrell’s letter to the editor (“

I also appreciate that she attends most board meetings and is engaged in her cooperative.

I feel I need to make a few comments to set the record straight.

The La Plata Electric Association put a transcript of the entire discussion about conflicts of interest on our website. That action demonstrates LPEA is not “censoring.”

Secondly, the director in question during the conflict voluntarily recused himself from any discussions or votes. Once that happened, the conflict, in my opinion, was adequately and appropriately remedied.

LPEA recently began live-streaming our board meetings. It is my hope and expectation that the LPEA board will support archiving these files for members to watch at their leisure. We’re adjusting the audio and expect to improve the video.

The bottom line is, we’re moving in the direction of making our board meetings more accessible to members that can’t attend.

With that in mind, it is appropriate for us to consider the amount of detail in the minutes of our meetings.

My thought is (and I don’t get a vote), the board actions are sufficient for the minutes, and members can get the details from the live stream or archive.

I hope you’ll attend or watch LPEA’s December board meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 12 which begins at 9 a.m. The coffee is better in person.
