The 2017 La Plata Electric Association, John Voelker Memorial, Basin Electric Power Cooperative and Tri-State Generation and Transmission scholarships were recently awarded by LPEA.
Jenna Engelken, a graduate of Durango High School, and Finlay Marshall, a Bayfield High School graduate, each received four-year LPEA College Scholarships. Engelken will major in environmental engineering at University of Colorado, Boulder, and Marshall will major in engineering at Fort Lewis College.
John Voelker Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Carlos Solas Villalpando, a Durango High School graduate, and Josiah Tessler, an Ignacio High School graduate. Both students will attend San Juan College in Farmington. Solas Villalpando will study welding, and Tessler will study diesel technology.
Emma Crowder, a graduate of Pagosa Springs High School, received the Basin Electric Power Cooperative scholarship. Crowder will attend University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.
Pagosa Springs High School graduates Noah Haarmann and Adeline Thompson received scholarships from Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association. Haarmann will study forestry and land management at Northern Arizona University, and Thompson will study political science at University of Denver.
