LPEA restores power to customers south of Durango

High wind broke utility pole

Power was restored to about 200 La Plata Electric Association customers around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

High wind broke a utility pole near 1662 County Road 307, south of Durango, and caused a power outage that affected nearly 300 customers and the Durango-La Plata County Airport when it started, a news release said.

LPEA announced on Twitter shortly after 2 p.m. that crews were isolating the damage and restored power to about 100 customers.

Shortly after 4 p.m., LPEA tweeted that power was fully restored with a temporary repair and crews would return Wednesday.

The utility pole was reported down in dry brush near county roads 307 and 172 at about 1:45 p.m.

Crews plan to repair or replace the pole Wednesday, a news release said.
