LPEA selects high schoolers to visit Washington, D.C.

High school juniors Isaac Jordan of Ignacio, Collin Jackson and Sloan Mazur of Bayfield and Jesse Laverty and Tate Hinger of Pagosa Springs were selected to represent La Plata Electric Association as part of the June 8-15 National Rural Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.

Students each completed an application and submitted a 500-word essay that covered an aspect of the electric industry.

During the Washington, D.C. trip, students will examine the United States Capitol and government from the inside, discuss concerns with national and state congressional representatives, tour monuments and museums, and engage in social activities.

The Washington, D.C., Youth Tour is open to high school juniors, including home-school students, who receive service from LPEA.

Applications for the 2018 Washington, D.C., Youth Tour are available at LPEA offices in Durango, 45 Stewart St., and Pagosa Springs, 603 S. Eighth St.; at area high school counselor offices, or online at www.lpea.coop.
