Adams State retained its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women’s cross country championship, while Western State captured the men’s title for the second time in three years.
Lauren Martin came in first place in the women’s individual race with a time of 21 minutes, 20.4 seconds for Adams State, and Western State’s Vegard Olstad won the men’s race in 23:56.5.
Both Fort Lewis College teams came in seventh place. The men’s team scored 212 points and the women 215.
Christian Gering turned in the top Skyhawks’ finish, a 25th-place result in 25:46.7. Garrett Sapakoff finished right behind him in 26th at 25:49.8, Joey Brenner 47th at 26:47, William Scoggins 67th at 27:34.6, Alex Kilman 68th at 27:35.5, Tate Lagasca 72nd in 27:46.9 and Ryan Mott in 73rd at 27:47.8.
Maddie Kruger topped the Skyhawks’ women’s team in 29th place, finishing the race in 23:10.2. Katarina Medici finished 43rd in 23:44, Katherine Judge 48th in 24:00.2, Alexis Work 49th in 24:00.9, Emily White 62nd in 24:23.8, Kiara Glover 67th in 24:42.9, Kelsi Lawrence 71st in 24:52.8 and Alyssa Carman 100th in 26:58.4.
Maura O’Brien of Adams State was named the women’s freshman of the year, and Keifer Johnson of Western State was named the men’s freshman of the year.
Damon Martin of Adams State was named the women’s coach of the year, and Jennifer Michel of Western State was named the men’s coach of the year.
Eight points separated the Adams State women (37) from runner-up Western State (45). The Western State men, ranked second in the Division II national rankings, won with 26 points, while Adams State, the top-ranked team in the nation, scored 45 and third-place Colorado Mines, ranked fourth, finished with 79 points.
Adams State and Western State are ranked 2-3 in the women’s national poll.
