There was no silver lining in the golden goal for the Bayfield Wolverines.
Lutheran’s Jen Vigil scored a sudden-death goal in the second overtime, and the Lions beat Bayfield High School (12-3-1) 3-2 on Friday in Colorado Springs to bounce the Wolverines in Round 1 of the state playoffs.
The Wolverines wound up on the wrong end of a second-half flurry that featured four goals in the final 30 minutes.
Lutheran went up 1-0 with 28 minutes remaining, and Bayfield answered with 20 minutes to go; Lutheran went up 2-1 with 13 minutes remaining, and Bayfield answered with 9 minutes to go.
The teams played through a first 15-minute overtime before Vigil potted the winner in the second.
The Wolverines were without leading scorer Effie Nistler after she suffered a knee injury last week.
