The Durango Mad Hatters will hold an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. April 19 at Yarn, 755 East Second Ave., for anyone interested in volunteering to make hats for babies.
The Mad Hatters will introduce a new program to make small stuffed animals to comfort young patients at the local emergency rooms. Knitters or crocheters who would like to learn how to make baby hats or small animals are welcome. Free instruction and patterns will be available.
The Durango Mad Hatters have provided handmade hats to each baby born at Mercy Regional Medical Center for more than 10 years. Founded in October 2006, the Mad Hatters have donated more than 8,500 baby hats to Mercy, Mercy Foundation and several children’s hospitals in the Southwest.
