The MAGA cultists of the faded GOP are, predictably, at it again. This time, following the banner of Colorado GOP Vice Chairman Hope Scheppelman, they are attempting to extort Durango School District 9-R into abandoning publicly proposed policies that recognize and attempt to mitigate the long-standing marginalization of some of the district’s most vulnerable students.
Scheppelman was elected vice chairman having said the GOP stands desperately in need of attracting “Republicans, independents, moderates, conservatives, older and younger voters.” As an independent voter, I applauded such a clear-eyed, seemingly principled assessment. Of course, I expected such words to be honored at least as much in their breach as in deed; we are talking the GOP here after all. Now, it seems, Scheppelman must abandon her own words of record and fully enter the MAGAteer cult.
A letter co-penned by Scheppelman to the state GOP vows that the party will ape their dear leader’s historic practice of scorched earth “lawfare” to suppress and vanquish all whom they perceive to be heretically at odds with GOP neo-orthodoxy. Indulging in all the most warped and self-revealing fantasies that their MAGA theocrats have provided, they have libeled dedicated educators and threaten destruction of the educational opportunities of their neighbor’s children, including those who remain within the GOP political orientation.
Having sold her soul, Scheppelman makes it clear that the MAGA cult has nothing to offer actual “Republicans, independents, moderates, conservatives, older and younger voters.”
I wish I were shocked.
