Mailing the Herald? That’s not a solution

In early March, we received a notice tucked inside our home-delivered Durango Herald that our newspaper will no longer be delivered but mailed to us. Mailed to us?

Maybe the Herald is not familiar with the Postal Service delivery issues in our area. And why would we want a newspaper that is mailed, goes first to Albuquerque and then back to Durango for postal service delivery? The news is already old by the time the paper is home delivered three days a week, but now will be days or perhaps even a week or more late.

When my spouse emailed the Circulation Department about the new policy, he received a snarky response – something to the effect of too bad, so sad, change is hard. Why would the Herald’s employees be so snarky and defensive about the change? Perhaps because they know it’s a flawed policy and will lose them even more subscribers?

After 15 years of being a loyal subscriber with home delivery – I guess the death of the Herald is imminent. Too bad, so sad, change is hard.
