Politically, I respect the gifts of conservatism and the gifts of liberalism. They each have useful contributions and ideas for us to hear, measure and blend. Where things go awry is when partisanship is incited to such a frenzy that we mischaracterize and hate each other; we no longer see each other as co-representatives in building a future. Those who seek to divide us from each other with fear and rage, that seek to divide us from our own hearts with hatred and lies, commit evil. It is evil to lead others into more suffering, hostility and separation. I respect that everyone has a heart and wants a better life. How we best go about this is what we work out together. But there has to be a respectful “together” for this to function. The lies and hatred coming out of FOX News every day has destroyed common ground and respect.
I hope in this coming election we vote for more functional, positive and rational people to serve in government. We can choose to vote against those who amplify fear, hatred and separation. This is between you, your ballot and your desire for a positive future. It takes strength to turn away from the seduction of FOX’s rancor, hatred and fears; strength to chose positively when those around you are shouting for blood. We can chart a better way forward with our votes.
