An Arizona man has been arrested on suspicion of public indecency after being found soaking in a Durango motel hot tub – and doing it naked.
The Durango Police Department responded at 3:50 a.m. Wednesday to Durango Downtown Inn to a report of a man who broke into the building housing the hot tub, according to arresting documents.
Officers did not find a broken window as reported but did find Sean Vincent Hernandez, 32, of Phoenix without clothes soaking in the hotel’s hot tub. Law enforcement ordered him out of the hot tub and asked the man to put his pants on before proceeding with its investigation.
Hernandez, who was not a guest at the motel, told officers he entered the motel through a sliding glass door “because his foot was hurting,” according to court documents. Police accused him of second-degree burglary, a Class 3 felony, and public indecency, a Class 1 misdemeanor. Prosecutors have yet to file formal charges.
The sliding glass windows around the pool building were open about 6 inches to help paint dry in the pool, said Jovany Rosa, general manager at Downtown Durango Inn. Hernandez pried one of the glass doors open and slipped into the building, Rosa said.
Surveillance cameras captured images showing Hernandez enter the building, which is detached from the main part of the motel, walk into the bathroom and come out with a towel around his waist, Rosa said. Hernandez dropped the towel just before getting into the hot tub, where he sat for about three minutes before law enforcement arrived.
“Basically, he wanted to take a bath,” Rosa said.
