A 34-year-old La Plata County man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child, according to court records.

La Plata County Sheriff’s Office was contacted Oct. 28 about the alleged incident, according to an arrest affidavit filed Tuesday in La Plata County Combined Courts.

Law enforcement was told Pedro Rocha sexually assaulted a child on Oct. 11 in the Forest Lakes subdivision, north of Bayfield.

Rocha, the affidavit said, had been drinking heavily that night. The sexual assault occurred around midnight, according to the affidavit, which is heavily redacted.

A spokesman with the Sheriff’s Office declined to release further details Thursday.

According to Vinelink.com, Rocha is in custody at La Plata County Jail on $100,000 bail. He is set to appear Nov. 22 in court.
