A man who allegedly shot his girlfriend in a Bodo Industrial Park motel April 19 was charged Friday with three offenses in 6th Judicial District Court.
Jeremy Dupree, 39, of Durango was charged with possession of a firearm by a previous offender, prohibited use of a firearm and tampering with physical evidence.
Dupree went free on bond May 9.
He also was served with a non-harassing order to protect Robin Armstrong, his girlfriend of two years.
Durango police and La Plata County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched about 7 p.m. April 19 to Homewood Suites, 15 Girard St., after Armstrong called 911 to say she had been shot in the stomach. The weapon used was a .44 caliber revolver.
The victim told officers at the scene she was shot by a handgun after the gun accidentally went off when Dupree slammed it onto the desk, according to the original arrest affidavit.
The couple apparently had been arguing according to other hotel guests, officials say. Dupree fled after the shooting.
Both were intoxicated, police said.
Shortly after Armstrong was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center, Dupree returned to the scene but fled again when he saw law enforcement officers.
He was arrested a few blocks away in the parking lot of Wagner Equipment, 112 Turner Drive.
