Police are looking for a man who assaulted someone early Sunday in Durango while dressed as a priest for Halloween.
The man, who was wearing a white clerical collar, punched the victim and knocked him unconscious. After the victim fell to the ground, the man kicked him in the head and face several times, said Sgt. Deck Shaline.
The police don’t know what provoked the assault that took place around 2 a.m. in the 800 block of Narrow Gauge Avenue.
“Fortunately, someone intervened in the assault,” Shaline said.
The good Samaritan prevented the victim’s injuries from being much worse, Shaline said.
The victim still had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries, but he has since been released.
The suspect was last seen possibly entering Colorado Ponga’s bar. He is believed to be about 6 feet 3 inches tall, in his 20s and Hispanic, Shaline said.
He was also possibly accompanied by a man dressed as the Pope, Shaline said.
The assault happened while the police were responding to several other 911 calls around town following the zombie march on Halloween.
