Man found dead from self-inflicted gunshot wound identified

Deputies found body in wooded area on Tuesday

A man found dead Tuesday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a wooded area in the 3000 block of County Road 126, about 13 miles southwest of Durango, was identified Thursday as 39-year-old Sean Connor of Hesperus.

Connor’s mother reported him missing to the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office about 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Chris Burke.

Burke said Connor had been missing since 4:30 p.m. Monday. Deputies searched his mother’s residence, where he is believed to have been living temporarily.

“Upon deputies arriving, they started scanning the area and found the male deceased,” he said. “They found him in a wooded area near the house.”

La Plata County Coroner Jann Smith confirmed it was a suicide.
