A man riding a motorcycle was sent to the hospital Friday night after being hit by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 160 about 10 miles west of Pagosa Springs, according to Colorado State Patrol.
CSP was sent to the crash site at mile marker 133 at around 7 p.m. Friday.
“The car fled and the motorcycle driver stayed,” said trooper Dan Selph, who investigated the hit-and-run crash Friday.
The motorcyclist, who was not identified, sustained non-serious injuries in the crash, according to Selph.
“Everything that happened is still under investigation; I’m still collecting information,” he said.
Selph said the man ended up in the eastbound lane of U.S. 160 after the crash when other motorists helped move him and his motorcycle to a nearby parking lot. However, it’s still unknown whether the crash happened in the eastbound lane or the westbound lane, he added.
The man was hospitalized in stable condition, said CSP Sgt. Dillon Guinn.
“Last I knew, he was being treated by the hospital,” said Guinn, adding that it’s still unknown whether the man has since been discharged or is still hospitalized.
Selph said CSP is still searching for the alleged hit-and-run driver, and the agency is still only working with a generic description of the car.
“We didn’t get enough of an eyewitness account to even narrow it down to a specific vehicle,” he said, adding that CSP is working with the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office on the investigation.
Selph said at least one eyewitness told authorities that they heard the crash, turned and saw the motorcyclist “was still in the air.” He also said the car fled to the east from the site.
Those who may have information about the crash or the alleged hit-and-run driver can call CSP’s Montrose dispatch line at 249-4392 at or call the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office at 264-8430.
