Memorial Day weekend fun, free fishing planned
Mancos State Park will offer Memorial Day weekend activities Saturday and Sunday and free fishing June 2-3.

Mancos State Park will offer Memorial Day weekend activities Saturday and Sunday and free fishing June 2-3.

Saturday activities include:

A guided hike at 10 a.m. along the east side of Jackson Gulch Reservoir. Participants will meet the ranger at the picnic area near the park entrance and should bring a hat, water, sunscreen and stable footwear. A ranger program, titled “Teeth and Claws and Poop,” at 7:30 p.m. in the amphitheater near the main campground. Participants will view and touch skulls, fake scat and fur of local animals.Sunday activities include:

A program about water safety at 10 a.m. at the picnic area near the park entrance. Participants will learn fun and safe ways to enjoy water recreation at the park, with free coloring books and more for children and adults.A family-friendly film will be shown at 8:30 p.m. in the amphitheater near the main campground.Park visitors can also enjoy license-free fishing June 2-3. Activities will include lessons for children, giveaways, patrol boat rides, a fishing blooper video and more.

The park is located 5 miles north of Mancos at 42545 Road N.

Entrance to the park costs $7 per vehicle.
