Mancos United Methodist Church to host verbena

Rosa Sabido, a Mexican national, stands outside the United Methodist Church in Mancos, where she has sought sanctuary since 2017.

The Journal

Rosa Sabido, who has been living in sanctuary at Mancos United Methodist Church in Mancos since June 2, 2017, will mark her second year in sanctuary by holding a vigil and fundraiser called “Verbena: A place for miracles” from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, on the church grounds.

The event will also be a celebration of the community that has welcomed her and given her support over the last two years. The event will include music from Let Them Roar. All of those in the community who have been involved or would like to be supportive of Sabido and the sanctuary movement are invited.

There will be an art space for children and face-painting. A light potluck will be offered, and bringing a dish is optional. An altar of freedom will be set up for spiritual offerings.

This is a free event.
