Ann Morse has big shoes to fill when she takes over as executive director of Manna this spring.
She will replace Kathy Tonnessen, who has held the position since 2013 and expanded Manna’s programs during a time of fierce controversy over homelessness in Durango.
Morse, who owned the Lost Dog Bar & Lounge, a now-defunct restaurant on Main Avenue, will start March 26.
She could not be reached for comment on Friday.
Tonnessen said she doesn’t have an official last day of work; instead, she will help coach Morse in her new position.
“We will work together for a bit, and then I will be available for questions and consulting until I’m not needed.”
The open position generated a lot of buzz, and Manna received about 50 applications, Tonnessen said.
“We narrowed it down and interviewed six people, and then conducted second interviews on two people,” she said.
Tonnessen said Morse’s diverse credentials made her stand out from the competition.
“She ran a restaurant for 11 years, worked for Axis Health System and the Humane Society thrift store,” she said. “She also has a bachelor’s in criminology. ... The culmination of her skills is a perfect fit for Manna.”
