March 7, 6 p.m.: The Spiritual Nature of Animals. Author Karlene Stange’s spiritual journey began during her work as an ambulatory veterinarian, driving her pickup through Southwest Colorado, attending to animals in need of medical care. Her book, The Spiritual Nature of Animals: A Country Vet Explores the Wisdom, Compassion and Souls of Animals, chronicles her spiritual path working with animals, through the lenses of various teachings of religious and cultural traditions, as well as her own encounters with the Rocky Mountain terrain and the quirky characters, both animal and human, who inhabit it.

March 10, 10 a.m.: Pine River Garden Club Seed Exchange and Seed Starting Workshop. Bring extra seeds to trade and join the Pine River Garden Club for a morning full of garden stories, advice and seeds. Bring small containers to transport any seeds you may want. There will also be an optional seed-starting workshop running throughout the event. For $20, you will get soil blocks, trays and guidance.

Wednesdays, 10-11 a.m.: Librarian’s Favorites story time. Every week, a new ICL staff member will share their favorite book. Join in the fun with stories, songs, puppets and more that encourage development of early literacy skills in young children.

Wednesdays, 2-5:30 p.m.: Teen Café. Open to teens in grades six-12. Play games, do homework, make crafts, relax with friends and have fun.

Thursdays, 4-5 p.m.: Kidz Klub starting March 15. Elementary school kids are invited to join ICL Kidz Klub for science experiments, games, art, snacks, exploring and more.

Ongoing events (adult)

Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: Learning to Paint with Oils or Acrylics. Participants will use acrylic paints, oil paints or water-soluble oil paints to learn to color mix, learn values, composition and color theory, and learn how to use various tools to create a unique painting. Registration and fee required.

Tuesdays, 1-3 p.m.: ICL Knitters. Work on knitting or crocheting projects, socialize and share ideas. Everyone is welcome to drop in.

Thursdays, 10 a.m.-noon: Older Adults Coffee Klatch. A gathering with coffee and snacks for older adults who would like to socialize, read the paper or play a game.

Fridays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: Open Art Studio. A time for artists to gather to work on their own projects while getting to socialize. Participation is not dependent on having taken classes at the library. All artists are welcome. Pat Knight will be on hand most days to offer assistance as needed.

March 5, 4 p.m.: Anime Club. Join us for an anime showing and a cultural activity. Because of the content of the shows, all participants must be in middle school or older.

March 7, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.: La Plata County Veterans Service Officer Richard Schleeter will hold office hours all day. These office times have been set up for veterans to meet with the CVSO and learn more about their veterans benefits. Appointments can be made by calling 759-0117, but walk-ins are also welcome.

March 9, 4-5 p.m.: Virtual Legal Clinic. Colorado Legal Services offers a free clinic on the second Friday of each month. The clinic covers general information about Colorado family law including: divorce and custody, property law, probate law, collections, landlord-tenant law, etc. You’ll learn what papers you need to start the action, general procedures, issues to look out for, resources and other information. Instructors do not provide legal advice on individual cases. Sign-up is required, space is limited. Call the library to sign up.

March. 12, 11:30 a.m.: Mystery Book Club. ICL’s Mystery Book Club will be reading Outfoxed by Rita Mae Brown. Join us for a fun foray into the interesting world of fox-hunting and Southern tradition. Members will bring their own lunch this month and the library will provide drinks and dessert. New members are always welcome.

March 22, 1-7 p.m.: IDEA LAB Grand Opening at ICL. Stop by any time for a tour of our new digital media lab, get inspired by displays and demonstrations highlighting the possibilities encompassed in this new space for all ages.

March 26, 1-3 p.m.: Pushing the Limits is a reading, viewing and discussion program for adults. In this installation, we will investigate the topic of motion through a video short about “bulldogging” and the “choke-on-your-coffee funny” book A Walk in the Woods.
